  • 2019 Draft: Rams Trade Out of First Round, My Top 25 to Watch on Day Two

The Rams unsurprisingly decided to trade down from their 31st pick, adding a second round pick and another third round pick, giving them three picks in the third round. When thinking about the Rams' needs, here is how I would stack my Top 25 big board for the start of Day Two....
    1. Cody Ford (OL, Oklahoma)
    2. Jawaan Taylor (OT, Florida)
    3. Greedy Williams (CB, LSU)
    4. Dalton Risner (OL, Kansas State)
    5. Nasir Adderley (S, Delaware)
    6. Rock Ya-Sin (CB, Temple)
    7. Erik McCoy (OL, Texas A&M)
    8. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (S, Florida)
    9. Elgton Jenkins (OL, Mississippi State)
    10. Taylor Rapp (S, Washington)
    11. Jaylon Ferguson (EDGE, LA Tech)
    12. Greg Little (OT, Ole Miss)
    13. Juan Thornhill (S, Virginia)
    14. Mack Wilson (LB, Alabama)
    15. Chase Winovich (EDGE, Mighican)
    16. Irv Smith Jr. (TE, Alabama)
    17. Justin Love (CB, Notre Dame)
    18. Sean Bunting (CB, Central Michigan)
    19. Yodny Cajuste (OL, West Virginia)
    20. Deionte Thompson (S, Alabama)
    21. Amani Oruwariye (CB, Penn State)
    22. Justin Layne (CB, Michigan State)
    23. Michael Deiter (OL, Wisconsin)
    24. Oshane Ximines (EDGE, Old Dominion)
    25. Connor McGovern (OL, Penn State)

One thing to keep in mind, there isn't a defensive tackle on that list. That's not to say that there aren't guys I like on Day Two at the position, but I don't have the value for them on the board yet. There are some bigger bodies to watch for, but I think the value at the moment is along the offensive line, in the secondary, and the occasional edge rusher. We'll see what the Rams do!

I think they are being a touch too clever. May they prove me wrong!

Nick, very good board for Day 2. The trade down was expected as the talent for this draft is clustered in rounds 2 & 3 once you get past the top 10-12 prospects who were all taken as expected, with several notable exceptions.

With regard to your list I see the Rams looking to find a starter at #45. For me that would be Chase Winovitch as Wade tends to like players who play with high intensity and non-stop motors. Having a DE would enable Brockers to move inside to NT, a big need as Suh is likely not going to be re-signed. Winovitch also provides good run defense skills which are a big plus looking around our division. This has nothing to do with my earlier Surfer Dude Day event at the Coliseum (Mathews and Winovitch).

Beyond that we will look to find some DB's as replacements for Talib and Weddle once they move on or retire and depth on the O-Line. We also need to fill the ILB spot beside Littleton and Mack Wilson could be a solid pick. Getting beyond your board RB will be a matter the Rams cannot overlook, but that is probably a day 3 selection.

Overall, I have to push back on the notion that the Rams were being too clever by trading back. We now have 4 picks in the area of the draft that offers the most value. We just have to make the "right" picks for us. Since the arrival of Sean McVay we've been much better at the draft process, largely because Les Snead is doing something he does very well, manipulate the draft according to info he gets from scouts and coaching staff. Really juiced going into tonight.

      Go Rams!

        Hopefully they will.

My suspicion is that none of their top guys made it to them, and while there's still some talent there, their cost/benefit analysis made them feel like an extra 3rd rounder was worth dropping back 14 picks for. Looking forward to finding out who the next new Ram will be...

I'm no expert, but some people had Greedy Williams going mid first round. There are also a couple of O-linemen projected to be gone by 45.

            no on greedy

he's not physical enough to do all that's required-
            namely tackle people.

I was hesitant on Greedy at 31 for the reasons you mentioned, but sign me up at 45. His size/athleticism with his coverage skills warrant top 10 consideration. A 35 pick drop based off of tackling seems adequate. It shouldn't matter, though, as there's slim to no chance of him actually slipping to 45. Ford and Greedy are the two guys on our board I'd bet significant money on not being there for us.

                  This is tough...

h no pick in the first two rounds, I've cut off the top of my previous board, eliminating players who I believe will definitely be gone within the first 50 selections.

With that... here are 25 prospects I like who could be there when the Rams make their picks in Rounds 3-6:

                  5. Frank Ragnow, C/OG, Arkansas
                  6. Martinas Rankin, OT, Mississippi State
                  7. Tyrell Crosby, OT, Oregon*
                  8. Chukwuma Okorafor, OT, Western Michigan

                  13. Will Richardson, OT, NC State
                  14. Will Clapp, C/OG, LSU

Nick's Day Two Top 20 Rams Big Board
                  by Nick
With the first round in the books, and the Rams' first pick in 2017 only five selections away, here is my Top 20 Big Board for Day Two of the draft. Quite frankly, I think you could make a legitimate argument for any of them with pick #37 and I'd love to see some of them end up lasting into the third for a possible selection there...

                  1. Forrest Lamp (OG, Western Kentucky)
                  2. Cam Robinson (OT, Alabama)
