  • espn reports rams trying to trade talib (and other vets)

espn reports rams trying to trade talib, have been trying to do so for two weeks, and talib opposes any trade (up to this point). Trying to free up cap (ie for ramsey) but may be as simple as getting picks for guys they know they arent going to resign anyway. Interesting report in the context of talib on IR and how severe the injury really is or is not. Also, report says open to trading other veterans. Not sure who that would be. Brockers? Matthews? Weddle? Seems unlikely if the Rams hope to make the playoffs. Anyone else want to speculate on who else we might be trying to move for a pick here or there?

Hard to say who else might be considered to trade. We have depth at WR, but do those contracts really cost that much? Idk...same with TE really, decent depth but limited cap savings. Too many questions about Gurley to get many real offers I imagine.

I think you're looking at players like Havenstein, Talib, Brockers( I wouldn't trade him at all), Blythe, Hager( could save 500K), etc. You're not trading Weddle, Mathews, Whitworth so the other Veterans have to be above.

A clear echo from me regarding Brockers. Solid DL component.

I see no way they can trade havenstein right now unless they get back a better tackle. I can not believe that they would move edwards to tackle and corbett in at guard with blythe.

            Maybe Cooks ?

Interesting report about Talib. I questioned his viability to the active roster weeks ago after his rib injury landed him on IR. Of course that wasn't well received. He wasn't playing at a high level and now there is a question about how injured he is...?

Cooks has been put in concussion protocol for the second time this season, so I don't think he'll be traded anytime soon, but who knows.

I agree on Talib. Not sure how much value he has as an injury prone player on his last legs.

Info that was left out of OP:

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Rams are willing to trade Aqib Talib and other veterans "who are in the final year of their contracts"

So yeah, Cooks is not in final year of contract

100% right concerning Havenstein. With the dearth of quality offensive linemen throughout the league, there's no way in the world the Rams would entertain trading an offensive lineman who's serviceable.

Littleton may be in the mix as an available vet. Matches the "in his last year" requirement too. Not saying I agree with it, since he's shown a great nose for the ball last couple years. But he probably projects as super value in a trade to a team that needs LB help. (Unfortunately, the Rams meet that description too!)

Here's another one... Blake Bortles. He literally comes with no contract baggage given his $1m deal. To a qb needy team, he might be worth giving up a pick for.
Personally, I think the 3 B's fit the bill the most: Blythe, Bortles, Brockers. But Morgan Fox is available as a vet on his last few months of contract.

As for Cooks, I don't think his contract numbers create any value to another team whatsoever.

In my mind, I suspect the Rams targeted someone they like, but they need to wheel a deal of their own before they can do it....and that's why they're shopping a few vets

Rams Decide to Trade #2 Pick, As Per ESPN
                        by NJ Ramsfan1
ESPN.com reporting. Of course, they are short on specifics, merely saying the Rams have had talks with Cleveland, Washington and Miami- nothing we haven't all discussed already. They DID say the Rams would be looking for a deal similar to the one Sand Diego received a few years back when they traded the rights to Eli Manning to NY. San Diego parlayed those picks into Philip Rivers, Shawne Merriman and Nate Kaeding- three pro bowlers.

I think the most plausible trade (if the Rams do in fact trade down) would be to ask Cleveland for their two 1st rounders at #4 and I believe #22. Cleveland takes Griffin, we still can get Blackmon at #4 and a quality player later in the round. Of course this is assuming Cleveland is a willing participant.

Patrick Peterson wants out, what would you trade for him?
                        by general counsel
I posted this about three weeks ago and most thought that arizona wouldnt trade him to us. I am not sure about that now that peterson has said publicly that he wants out. I think out number one need is a stud edge rusher, ie a von miller type, which is likely unavailable in the extreme. Another stop corner, let alone one at a relatively cap friendly 15 million, would also help, especially with the uncertainty of the talib situation. Similar to the thinking on khalil mack, we could always potentially trade him at the end of the season depending on how all the money in the secondary shakes out.

Personally, given what a legit shot we have to make a real run at the title, i would not have any problem giving up a #2 pick. I could be talked into a number one without too much trouble i think given where that pick is likely going to be.

                        Thoughts?

Would you make the trade Part Deux

If Washington called, would you trade the #13 pick for RG3 assuming the Redskins pick up a little of his cap space?

Realistically, do we have anything we can trade to a contending team for a draft pick?

I am all about playing for the future right now but i cant think of anything we have off the top of my head that anyone would trade for that we wouldnt want to keep for next year. We arent going to get anything for glover, chaveous, mccollum, dante hall (injured)

                        Report: Kirk Cousins requests trade
Posted by Mike Florio on March 9, 2017, 11:45 AM EST

The launch sequence has been initiated.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that quarterback Kirk Cousins has personally asked owner Daniel Snyder to trade the sixth-year quarterback. Per Mort, Cousins was basically told not to get his hopes up.

Cousins’ response should be to tell Washington not to get their hopes up about him signing his franchise tender. By rule, he can stay away until Labor Day or thereabouts, skipping the offseason program and training camp and the preseason and making $23.94 million for the season once he reports.

Sure, they could rescind the tender. But with Brian Hoyer the starter* in San Francisco, Cousins would quickly find a new home.

Either way, go get some popcorn.
