  • Joned this forum after Bernie Miklasz went nuts on me

Hi guys! I'm a longtime Rams fan, actually St. Louis sports fan, that got the boot from Bernie at the Post Dispatch website forum. I have been a member there for about four-five years.

The reason I got banned? I had the nerve to start a thread about Keith Null, and was immediately and viciously attacked by Miklasz in "his" forum.

Why? I don't know, other than to say what I posted actually AGREED with an article he posted, saying that "you never know" about quarterbacks and how they will turn out, which frustrates coaches and front office personnel.

I used his logic to support MY opinion that Null should be groomed to start the last game of the season, getting him some reps, because "you never know" (quoting Bernie) what you've got until you ACTUALLY PLAY A GUY.

It was just an opinion, and Bernie went nuts on me. He complained about (in chronological order):
    1. my starting a thread about Null
    2. my “inability to understand”
    3. my “refusal to understand”
    4. my “infatuation” with Null
    5. my inability “to figure it out”
    6. my not being “too bright”
    7. my “wearing him out”
    8. my “irritating” him

He also went into this long rant about spending countless hours and days moderating the forum "as a courtesy" to us readers, moaning and complaining and saying all kinds of stupid B.S.

Some other posters took exception to his lunacy, and he flamed them too. Maybe he's in a mid-life crisis or something, because he's been increasingly cantankerous lately.

I finally responded by comparing him to Andy Rooney, a grouchy old fart who isn't relevant anymore. I also told him that if he hated moderating the forum so much, he should quit doing it.

He b*tched some more, then banned me from the PD forums and locked the thread.

You can see the carnage here:
Bernie: with your own words no less... | Sports Forums - Bernie's Press Box | STLtoday

I felt the whole ridiculous episode was an unwarranted, extreme overreaction on his part and total condescension to a loyal reader.

Frankly, I'm sick of him (and some of the other admins over there) running that place like it's thier own personal kingdom.

Don't even get me started on the other "Ram Fans" over there that think they are the anointed Forum Sheriffs, polishing up their badges every chance they get. They don't want people to have thier own opinions, and heaven forbid if you actually want to have a little fun.

I apologize for the length of my first post here, but thanks for the chance to vent. Hopefully, we can talk some REAL football here, without the fear that if we don't kiss the admin's a**, we'll get banned.

Welcome Ramsong. We love to poke fun at Bernie here, so I'm sure many will get a chuckle over your story. Have you read his latest offering? I'm getting the impression he read your post here, but that he's not chuckling over it.

Don't know if this is really Bernie or not, but THAT was funny.

I'm willing to bury the hatchet....was getting tired of the PD forums anyway.

I actually took the time to read that whole thread. The only thing I wish was that some of the comments weren't *deleted*, so that I could see their relevance.

By the way, Welcome to the Clan!

Maybe, but you're not anything over here - just one of group.

RamSong - I too am a disgruntled fan from that other "website." Way to much nonsense, hypocrisy, and "know it alls".

Anyway, welcome - I know this has become my new home as well. Look forward to seeing during the draft and games as the new season progresses.

BTW - the 99 at the end of my moniker is just a numeric placeholder. I've been a fan since I was a kid - Roman Gabriel & Rosy were my first football heroes.

Bernie, negligent retention, and the missing piece to the Samir Suleiman story
                    by AvengerRam_old
                    Let's review:

Bernie reports that he received a seemingly threatening voice mail from Rams' executive Samir Suleiman (to BM's credit, it appears he didn't make this up).

Rams announce that Suleiman will receive a reprimand.

Now, as an initial point, one must ask - why did Bernie feel the need to report this? Certainly, its not newsworthy (other than for tabloid value, that is). Certainly, Bernie could have simply reported the matter to the Rams privately (perhaps he would have enhanced his relationship with the team if he had done so). But, true to his nature (making himself the story whenever possible) Bernie ran with it.

But, now that the story is apparently concluded, am I the only person who thinks there's something missing here?

Let me put on my lawyer hat for a moment. There is a common law theory recognized in most jurisdictions which is called "negligent retention." Essentially, if an employer learns that an employee has potentially dangerous propensities, and retains him or her nonetheless, it can be held liable in negligence for any subsequent harm caused by that employee.

Because of the existence of this theory, employers will typically protect themselves by terminating employees who show violent tendancies.

The Rams apparently are not taking this measure with respect to Suleiman.

This begs the question... why not?

The most logical answer is that the comment - though ill advised and inappropriate - was not intended to be threatening. Maybe it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Maybe it was a sarcastic comment.

Certainly, Bernie won't shine any light on this, as he would look foolish for running and reporting about the message if it was just a bad joke. I doubt his buddies at the PD will illuminate this question either.

But, I have to say... I'm having a hard time believing that Suleiman would be retained if he truly intended to express a serious threat (either of violence, or figurative "back stabbing") to another person in the organization.

                    Something is definitely missing here.

Still waiting for NFL permission, according to Jay Zygmunt, through Andy Strickland on Team 1380...

can't talk to their guy yet...

also: Rams have at least one offer for the No. 2 pick on the table...

have heard from multiple teams (probably fewer than five)....

                    --B

They won't have a deal (contract) with Jackson done before the draft.

                    They aren't taking McFadden, though.

                    -B

I'd imagine the Larry Johnson deal is a place to start...

(signed for $19 million guaranteed, $45 mill overall, six years)

                    --B
On F.Brown--I think the Rams pushed the NFL to make a decision on the appeal... simply because of how his status could impact the draft...

ALSO .... long time between now and training camp, now and the start of the season. They're holding their breath around here (Rams Park) that this guy lays off da cheeba...

                    Wink

I'm not letting this go - Bernie needs to run out of town!
                    by AvengerRam_old
Not a week ago, Bernie devoted an entire article to what he described as "anarchy" and "a helter-skelter mess" at Rams Park.

This is the same "helter-skelter" organization has managed to resign a number of RFAs and exclusive rights players, restructured Marshall Faulk's contract to clear needed cap space, signed FA Dexter Coakley within a day of his release by the Cowboys, and is apparently currently actively pursuing other free agents including Chris Claiborne.

Here's the problem with this. We, as fans, have very limited access to information. We therefore rely on a limited number of local sportswriters, who have greater access, to provide us with some insight.

Why should we have to rely upon someone like Bernie who (1) clearly has disdain for Martz and the front office, and (2) takes every opportunity to place a negative spin on few fact he knows or, more often, thinks he knows.

Don't think that this does not go unnoticed, either. I'll bet that Martz and others are aware of Bernie's approach, and probably avoid him more and more because of it. Bernie then gets annoyed (don't forget, the guy is so defensive he feels the need to snipe at anyone who takes a shot at him on his message board, rather than simply ignoring the trolls), and becomes more negative and critical. Its a vicious circle.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want some total "homer" to blow sunshine up our posteriors about everything, but Bernie clearly has an agenda that renders him useless as a conduit of information to Ram fans.

Bernie has finally gone off the deep end.
                    by AvengerRam_old
Bernie just posted an article on the Rams at the PD.

I'm not going to post it here. I just won't/can't. If you want to read it, go over to the PD site and knock yourself out.

Bernie's supposed "point" is to somehow connect the potential move to L.A. and the need/desire to draft a QB early. Its a non sequitur, to say the least.

That's not the real issue, though.

The issue is that its seems to be written from the perspective of a 14 year old girl who just caught her boyfriend texting her BFF and is now in the process of cutting him out of every photo taped to her bedroom wall.

I know that I have a long track record of criticism of sportswriters, and Bernie in particular, but, seriously, dude. If you can't maintain even the facade of interest, objectivity and professionalism, maybe you should just stick to writing about baseball. The fans of the St. Louis Rams deserve better than the journalistic slop that has been served up by the PD lately.

We get it... you're mad at Stan Kroenke. Get over it and do your friggin' jobs.

                    Sheesh!
